Petition To the
Australian Broadcasting Commission |
This petition from North Queensland
citizens draws the attention of the
Australian Broadcasting Corporation
to its decision to exclude coverage
from Townsville from its free-to-air
coverage of the Women's National
Basketball League.
Townsville is the only WNBL team
to not have home game television
coverage.
The Townsville Fire has the brand
new Townsville RSL stadium as its
home base. This $15million stadium
was funded by Federal, State and
Local government to provide a state
of the art stadium to regional
Queensland. The stadium is regarded
as the best WNBL Stadium in
Australia and is drawing regional
crowds of 1,600 per game (average) -
more than double the average crowd
to a WNBL game nationally. The
Townsville Fire is a competitive
team, currently sitting fourth on
the WNBL Ladder, the Fire has
enormous community support and we
wish to see our home games televised
in the same manner as every other
team in the league. The Townsville
RSL stadium is eminently suitable
for television broadcasting.
We respectfully ask that the
Australian Broadcasting Commission
reconsider its decision to exclude
the Townsville from its coverage of
WNBL games. |
